Every Tasting, With Jay

“One of my favorite producers in Oregon.”

Eric GuidoVinous

A long list of bottlings, no single house style, and wines that keep their sense of place. Some of them never reach the shop at all.

The Wines

Taste the terroir.

Single-vineyard offerings for a taste of place, and thoughtful blends that honour what Oregon does. New releases, prior vintages and verticals, plus some treasures for the cellar.

Every bottle here is poured at the farm. Some of them only ever go to members.

The Wine Club

Join the club.

Two allotments a year, in March and November, dealer's choice. Members get the limited bottlings, and the pre-paid and higher tiers reach the wines that never make the shop at all.

Jay pouring trial lots beside the stainless tanks

Behind the Label

A genuine appetite for experiment.

This is Jay pouring trial lots beside the tanks. There is no house formula here, just a long list of bottlings and a real curiosity about what each one can become. Some of them never reach the shop at all.

The Experience

Six wines. Six glasses. One host.

Tastings begin at the top of the hill, seated in the cottage, with every wine poured into its own glass so you can compare them side by side. Jay takes it himself, start to finish.

  • By appointment, seven days a week. 10:30am or 2:30pm, book at least 48 hours ahead
  • Up to six guests. One to three hours, indoors or out as the weather allows
  • Charcuterie and nosh throughout. You almost certainly won't need to bring food
  • Then walk it off. Trails, viewing platforms, the firepit, and barrel tasting if you want to stake a claim on a future vintage

The Farm

It is, genuinely, a farm.

The vista of the Yamhill-Carlton AVA opens out below the viewing platforms. Walk the trails, take a bottle to the fire pit, or carry on to the production building for a barrel tasting.

The Winemaker

Jay McDonald

Winemaker, owner, host, and the person who packs your box. If you have met EIEIO, you have met Jay.

“My wine making is focused on the fruit that grew in the vineyard.”
  • Pinot noir and Chardonnay, plus a Rosé of Pinot and a White Pinot that tend to sell out
  • No house formula: a long list of bottlings and a genuine appetite for experiment
  • Every tasting on the farm is led by him personally
